Meditation without the incense
Sound can be an anchor when your mind runs off. You do not need to be good at meditating to use it.
Meditation gets a bad reputation because people think it is about emptying your mind. It is not. It is about noticing when your mind wanders and gently coming back. Sound makes that return easier.
Use sound as the anchor
Pick a soft ambience, a theta session, or even pink noise. The sound becomes the thing you return to when your brain runs away. It is a simple loop: wander, notice, return.
Five minute version
- Sit down, start the sound, close your eyes.
- Breathe slowly and let the sound fill the room.
- When you drift, come back to the sound.
- Stop after five minutes and notice how your body feels.
That is it. You do not need candles. You do not need a perfect posture. You just need a consistent cue. Sound is a good one because it is hard to ignore but easy to soften.
If you want a longer version, stretch it to ten minutes. The skill is the same, just a little more patience.
